R&D Engineer
We are currently working with an exciting start-up company based in Cambridge that is working on bringing to market a high-density, low-cost energy storage application. As the company continues to grow with recent funding secured, they are now recruiting for an R&D Engineer to join the team on a permanent basis.
This role will see you working with cutting-edge technology – acting as the company’s subject matter expert when it comes to process development. As R&D Engineer, you will lead the validation of new technology and its implementation into new prototypes – whilst having the ability to contribute to scale-up activities.
R&D Engineer responsibilities
- Lead projects focused on improving key aspects of the energy storage technology.
- Lead the validation of new technology from the Research team, its scale-up and implementation into new prototypes.
- Identify development opportunities and find creative solutions to improve a prototype’s KPI’s
- Generate new prototype concepts and carry out experimental activities to support their development.
- Assist in managing the interface between the Research and Prototype Development teams.
- Provide development expertise within a multi-disciplinary development team.
- Liaise with, and effectively support, Research scientists engaged in polymer and electrochemistry research.
- Contributing to various R&D programs across the company.
R&D Engineer requirements
- Degree level qualification in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or closely related.
- Several years of industry experience – working in an R&D environment.
- Demonstratable hands-on engineering skillset coupled with a technical capability to understand chemical systems and processes
- Experience of process development and optimisation, with a focus on pilot line manufacturing
- Experience in the scale-up of formulations or processes from laboratory bench to pilot line.
- Creation and management of standard operating procedures, work instructions and quality control specifications.
- Project management experience, leading small teams to achieve short/medium term objectives.
- Knowledge of product development methodologies.
- Willingness to be hands on.
- Teamwork experience and good communication skills.
- Desire to work in a dynamic R&D environment with early-stage technology.
