Bioinformatician
A groundbreaking start-up working on novel DNA/RNA sequencing technology is recruiting a Bioinformatician to join its team based in Edinburgh on a permanent basis. The company has just closed out their pre-series A funding round and is investing heavily in all areas of its team as it looks to release its product for clinical studies.
You will be responsible for the exploration of high-quality technical data to identify interesting findings and correlations – using tools such as Linux OS.
This role will be suitable for a highly qualified PhD candidate who can also bring relevant work experience gained in either an academic or industry setting – covering bioinformatics and transcriptomics.
Bioinformatician responsibilities
- Ensuring that the data is processed within the expected time frame.
- Ensuring the quality of the data analysis.
- Exploration of the data to catch up on interesting findings or odd behaviours.
- Development of solutions and tools to address any new tasks that may present themselves during the processing of the data.
- Reporting key points of the analysis and findings to other groups in the company (i.e.: wet-lab, managers, etc).
Bioinformatician requirements
- High-level degree qualification (ideally PhD) in bioinformatics or closely related.
- Familiarity with Linux OS and related tools.
- Knowledge and experience on programming / scripting languages, such as: Bash, Python, R, etc.
- Knowledge and experience at handling long read transcriptomic data, PacBio and/or Nanopore sequencing data.
- Knowledge of transcriptomics and bioinformatics, especially long-read transcriptomics pipelines.
- Knowledge of the role of alternative splicing on cancer
- Good communication skills, especially in communicating information across diverse knowledge fields, such as biology and computing.
