Health & Safety Specialist – Fixed Term (9–12 months)
Location: Home-Based with Regional Travel (Cornwall, Devon, Avon, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire)
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week
Salary: £40,000 - £43,000 per annum (pro rata) + Car & Home Working Allowance
The Role
We’re seeking a skilled Health & Safety Specialist to join on a 9–12 month fixed-term basis, supporting services across the West region. You’ll play a key role in maintaining compliance, promoting a positive safety culture, and conducting fire risk assessments in care and supported housing settings. Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety and Risk, this is a home-based role with regional travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Type 1 & 2 Fire Risk Assessments in care and supported living settings.
- Lead on incident management, investigations, RIDDOR reporting, and corrective actions.
- Deliver expert advice to operational teams on H&S and fire safety compliance.
- Complete audits, inspections, and risk assessments to monitor safety performance.
- Liaise with regulators and follow up on remedial actions.
- Support policy development and report on KPIs, trends, and risk insights.
What You’ll Need
Essential:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
- Level 3 Fire Safety or Fire Risk Assessment qualification
- At least 2 years' experience in Type 1 & 2 FRAs
- Strong knowledge of H&S legislation in care/housing
- Full UK driving licence and own vehicle
- Confident communicator with strong analytical and organisational skills
Desirable:
- Membership of IFE, IFSM or Fire Risk Assessor Register
- Level 3 Food Safety qualification
- Additional training (e.g., DSE Assessor)
- Experience in supported housing or social care
